Viñedo de los Vientos
Viñedo de los Vientos wines are some of the most interesting in Uruguay. Winemaker Pablo Fallabrino doesn’t like to play by the book, and his rule-breaking wines are a triumph for their unique character in the region. Located in the windy, coastal hills of Atlantida, east of Montevideo, the region is cooler than the traditional wine region of Canelones and as a result this area is great for zippy white wines and fresh reds like Nebbiolo.
His small production is about to grow as he has purchased land on the highest hill of Uruguay, on Cerro Catedral in Maldonado behind Punta del Este. The vines are still to young for any wines yet, but if his Atlantida wines are anything to go by – they should offer exciting results.
If you are in Viñedo de los Vientos winery for a visit, try the Angel’s Cuvee – an amarone-style Tannat.
