This authentic experience is about connecting to the local, and discovering Argentina’s gaucho culture and fire-cooking methods with a charming local couple. Spend a leisurely day with Lucas and Julia in their countryside home in Maipú, who welcome you to discover the essence of gaucho culture, life, and tradition, and enjoy a typical Argentine meal cooked over the embers of a burning fire and paired with juicy Maipú wines.
Experiencing a place is about experiencing its people. In Argentina, one of the strongest characters of the country’s past and present is the gaucho. Countryside living, using local foods and resources, and an affinity with wildlife and horses is key to this identity, and our hosts Lucas and Julia exemplify this spirit. Veterinarians by day, they have a strong connection with animals and as well as meeting their many pets, you will learn about the artistry and nuances of gaucho culture – from preparing mate (a local herb drink) and making fresh sopaipillas, to discovering the traditional gaucho dress and witnessing the unique dressing of a Gaucho horse saddle.
As you prepare and delight in the traditional Argentine wood fire and cooking in iron disks, Lucas will regale tales of climbing Aconcagua and mastering Argentina’s little-known national sport – Pato, a game played between gauchos on horseback (with ducks!) As the fire warms, you will enjoy a typical picada of local cheese with almonds and olives from their own trees in the garden, followed by a typical ‘al disco’ main course – all accompanied by plenty of wine and good stories. Don’t miss out on this traditional and authentic experience!
