Casablanca was Chile’s first cool climate coastal region, and remains one of the most prolific. Take this classic route to three of the region’s most pioneering producers, and get a true taste of Casablanca’s unique identity.
As the morning mist clears and the birds come out to play in this coastal region, you will arrive to Emiliana – one of the most important biodynamic producers in South America. Walking through the vineyards you will discover the lively wildlife that reside here, and essential element to their wine philosophy, and learn about the main principles of organic viticulture and sustainable farming methods. The proof is indeed in the pudding though, and a delicious tasting of four wines paired with organic cheeses will show just that.
While most people associate Casablanca with white wines, the next visit is to a producer with an interesting micro climates on a wooded hillside that is a specialist in red varieties. As well as a guided walk through the vineyards, you will head to the beautiful winery of Loma Larga which is immersed between a historic garden with stunning old trees. The tasting is led by an experienced sommelier who has handpicked some of the winery’s more interesting varieties including a Cabernet Franc and Malbec to taste.
You will finish with a new project by grandfather of Casablanca, Bodegas RE by Pablo Morande. Morande is credited with discovering the potential of the valley as a wine region, and this is a small family winery with his son Pablo Jnr where they focus on historic wine production methods including using large clay amphorea, and create unorthodox blends. A four course lunch at the winery will be awaiting, to be enjoyed paired with their award-winning wines.
